Rising Star Award: Pink Lemonade

Winners of BurySOUND 2020 Fleas; brought the whole crowd together, quickly, and quite violently, but together none the less. A stage presence like no other and definitely a performance worth waiting a year for. Their aura was surreal, they could win by charisma alone. During their interview, you can tell they truly are a family, not just band members who met through our college Music Performance Course.

Pink Lemonade gained the Rising star award with their unique style; optimistic and uplifting messages setting them apart from the other bands. Not only, an increasingly needed positivity, but a progressive mindset is what I believe solidifies their career in music and gained them the award.

Winners of the Songwriter Award: SubStation from Queens Road Studio music project, were awarded, the first ever songwriters award for “Four Hour Drive” written by young band members, two of which, have recently joined Popular Music Course at the college.

Other finalist performers were -

The Daze: the essence of youthful rebellion. Their slight awkwardness almost feels purposeful, giving it the feel of real people, playing real music. I can already predict a bright future ahead of for this Queens Road Studio band, a bizarre but wholly positive one.

Far from refuge: Kicked off the mosh pits, metal at its core. Genuinely a modest set of guys, a complete contrast to their thrashing set. This description was Short and sweet, like the lead vocalist.

Leon O’Leary: Also a Digital Saints college music student, opened the final with his folk/rock, the perfect opener. I could tell that it quelled the anxieties most experienced when the music first starts, you know the awkward head bobbing that evolves into a weird wiggle just powered by the music. Couldn’t have had a better start, although I may be a bit biased.

Gabbie Rivers: Headlined the night whilst the panel made judgement on who deserved the awards. Her music just radiates someone who has found herself in a world fraught with the unknown. Can see without a doubt how she won the previous BurySOUND and went on to play at Latitude Music Festival.

Real appreciation for those who didn’t make it to the final of BurySOUND and The Hunter Club. This town needed the Hunter Club, the music scene in Bury St Edmund is so rich because of it and this event.
