The Final whistle with molly

Wanderers vs Basildon
Wanderers took 3 points from their weekday match against Basildon United. The team were 1-0 down at half time and weren’t looking very hopeful after missing a lifeline penalty. The second half seemed to be looking up for wanderers as Michael Bareck gave them a push making it 1-1, but deep in stoppage time the boys took all three points away from the bees with a last minute winner from Oliver Sims with a free kick. After a 2-1 win on Tuesday the 17th, manager Glen Driver was elated with his team. “We started the game a little bit shady, the first 15 minutes we weren’t really at the races. Went a goal down and then got a lifeline penalty which we’ve missed two in two games now which is disappointing but I think with that done we’ve kicked started our first half performance and I felt as the half grew on we got stronger and stronger and looked the better side”. During the second half Glen saw a massive improvement in his team. Glen said “Basildon’s goalkeeper then got sent off and before you know it the ball’s at our feet, pressure on their back line and two great goals to finish the game at the end.” As the club currently have a large chunk of their players out with injury bringing in youth players was a vital part of this match. Glen commented on the Youth’s performance saying “We’re not afraid to give the kids a chance, at Wanderers they’re your platform for success, you have to bring young kids into your group and put trust in them. It is being forced on us a little bit but you either sink or swim and at the moment the kids are swimming. Zach Pedro is a starter for us, Zach Gayfer has been brought back in because of an injury and he didn’t do himself any harm, and Wictor Zalewski has just turned 17 playing in our under 18s and he’s come on the pitch and is also doing well so the youth at this club is important to us. We have to put them in and take them out and I’ve been here many times with young players, they need to keep their feet on the floor. When we get some of our senior players back we’ll keep some of the kid’s in the group and I’m really pleased with the young lad’s” Glen commented on the last minute screamer saying “We’ve got a young side, we started the game with 17 year old youth player Zachary Pedro, we put our second 17 year old youth player Wictor Zalewski on and we’ve got another 17 year old youth player Zach Gayfer. They’re young kids and we’ve got 7 injuries which this football club needs to realise and they’re all valid starters. We have to remember where we’re at and where we’re trying to go. I tried taking Ollie sims off the free kick and putting Patrick Brothers on it, so I’m glad he stayed over it and it ended up going in the top corner. “I think this game will benefit us, we need to put a back to back performance together and we need to get two or three wins, maybe a draw chucked in, but we’re not getting stuffed at games and we’re not coming off the back of bad losses at the moment. We need to push on from this and overall the boys deserved this so onwards and upwards.”

Wanderers vs Redbridge MOTM
The man of the match is awarded to the player with the most outstanding performance on the pitch each game. Usually, it is awarded to a player from the winning team but can be awarded to a player from either team. It is also known as player or woman of the match depending on what match it is. For Ipswich Wanderers vs Redbridge the man of the match was awarded to Rasheed Salau. Salau reflected on his own performance saying “I thought I did well, making good runs in behind. I had a few chances in the first half and I got my little reward for my hard work at the end with an equalising goal.” Also reflecting on the whole team's performance he said “I reckon we battled hard, obviously could have battled that little bit harder to stop their two goals but we did well to come back twice.” This game resulted in a 2-2 draw. One of the goals for Wanderers was an own goal from Redbridge’s Thomas-faser. Salau said “We caught a little bit of life from the own goal and did well to keep fighting to get the equaliser at the end. We do need to work a little bit harder as a team to stop those goals going in but overall the performance was alright.” Salau doesn’t think this match will affect the rest of the season but looks positively toward the upcoming games by saying “We’ve had an up and down start to the season but it’s a good group of boys, Quite a few players are injured as well, so going forward when the players come back in we’ll have a fully fit squad so hopefully we’ll get some good wins.”

Post match with glen driver
After another draw for wanderers at the GBS stadium against Redbridge, Glen Driver was fairly disappointed as they should have taken all three points instead of just one. He said “The performance just wasn't quite good enough, we rescued a point but should have had all three. It’s just another disappointing day at the office for us personally.” The team had seven injuries prior to this game. Glen said “Another injury takes us up to 8, the list is just getting ever bigger. But the boys showed a bit of character to come back after being behind twice and we’re lucky to get away with a point really but we’ll take it.” The Man of the match award was then awarded to Wanderers' Rasheed Salau. Glen was elated with his performance saying “He was very, very good and deserved his man of the match award. I thought he worked hard, scored a good goal and he could have had one or two more.” With all the injuries currently in the squad he said “ He’s playing up there as a striker when really he’s a midfielder. I’m just pleased for him as he works so hard for the team.” When asked how he feels about his Youth player’s performance he said “They struggled a bit, Tuesday and Saturday is just too much for some of these young boys and they’re coming up against big grown men. Zach Pedro was left wanting a bit today but he’s a young kid who’s just going to get better and better. Zach Gayfer went in today as a left back when he’s a right sided centre half so there are a few issues with the injury list at the moment but fingers crossed and onto Tuesday.”
